Update From BCAW re: COVID-19
As we all woke up this morning, our bowling community is entering a time unlike any other in our history. With Wisconsin Governor Evers’ Executive Order issued yesterday afternoon, business as we knew it . . . our social life as we have enjoyed it . . . has all changed literally overnight.
At this time, all bowling centers throughout the state have been shuttered under the mandate prohibiting gatherings of 10 or more people. Additionally, restaurants & bars ceased to operate as they have for generations in the Badgerland. Effective last night at 5:00pm, several of our member centers worked to continue providing food service to their communities on a carry-out, curbside pick-up or delivery basis. We encourage you all to support these family businesses in your communities, keeping in mind social distancing and effective personal hygiene.
We know the decisions made for the general good of our communities, and our country, will have far reaching implications for all of the citizens of the USA. When COVID-19 subsides, and we are able to return to our daily lives as we knew them before this public health emergency, I hope everyone will GO BOWLING! These hubs for community social entertainment will depend on people coming back and supporting them. Book your parties and other social events at your local bowling center. Take your family for a nice meal out. Tell your neighbors and friends to support those who have supported them at times of need.
Bowling center owners and their employees are some of the most generous people I know. They have been there to host fundraisers for families in need, churches serving their neighborhoods, and many public charities and agencies doing great work for medical and social causes. We need for them to return to the thriving and entrepreneurial endeavors that make them so valuable in service to others.
I encourage everyone to follow us on the BCAW Facebook page. I will continue to try to keep folks abreast of the latest developments and announcements impacting our little corner of the world during these fluid and uncertain times. In the meantime, please be advised that effective tomorrow (Thursday, March 19th) the BCAW office will be closed to outside visitors. Currently the office is continuing with our day-to-day business, but at this point in time, there is no business being conducted at our office that necessitates our members or bowlers coming into our office in Pewaukee. There may come a time in the not so distant future when we temporarily close the BCAW office operations due to COVID-19, but we’re not at that point yet.
Additionally, we are still planning to host the Wisconsin Adult Youth Scholarship Tournament scheduled for mid-April at Chalet Lanes in Wisconsin Dells. I have been in contact with the center management team, and our plan is to proceed if at all possible, and in accordance with the Governor’s directives at the time.
Until our next time on the lanes, please be safe and protect yourself and your loved ones!
Yours in bowling,
Yvonne Bennett
