All Star Team Challenge Concludes the 20-21 HSBC Season

 In News

What’s the old saying, “In like a lion and out like a lamb?”  In a pandemic riddled season of high school bowling here in Wisconsin, the season successfully concluded yesterday with our All Star Team Challenge held at AMF West in Milwaukee.  We so very proud of the tireless work of so many who made this past HSBC season a reality for hundreds of teams throughout Wisconsin.

With this event cancelled in 2020, we were looking forward to a proper conclusion to the HS season.  My oh my, what a finale we had!  While many followed our updates throughout the day on Facebook, we want to provide this event recap.

The All Star Team Challenge brought together the top 130 HSBC players from around the state based on individual performance at the local district level.  This year we had 13 of our 14 districts send a boys and girls team.  Due to the continuing concerns with COVID, we did have protocols in place including limiting spectators and requiring face masks by all bowlers, coaches, fans and staff.

In the morning all teams bowled three games league style.  Based on these scores, we recognized the top five girls and boys based on their individual three game series.  Scholarship were awarded to the top three.   Our top singles players were:

Girls
1st     Amber Thompson (District 7B/Campbellsport) $200 scholarship
2nd   Addison Jacak (District 7B/West Bend West) $100 scholarship
3rd    Stephanie Zagar (District 3A/Bradford) $50 scholarship
4th    Kelly Whipple (District 7A/Sheboyban South)
5th    Tyler Jensen (District 4/Sun Prairie)

Boys
1st     Rory Clark (District 1/Muskego) $200 scholarship
2nd   Anthony Martorana (District 1/Oak Creek) $100 scholarship
3rd    Dylan Smith (District 9/Merrill) $50 scholarship
4th    Sebastian Beth (District 3A/Case)
5th    Levi Courtney (District 3B/Janesville Parker)

After a break for lunch, teams hit the lanes for 10 Baker games.  Pinfall from the morning singles would be added to the afternoon Baker games with the top three teams based on total pins, advancing to a step ladder finals to crown our 2021 All Star Team Champions.  The results of our step ladder finals crowned District 7B as our Girls’ Champions and District 3A as our Boys’ Champions!

District 7B Girls

Girls
1st     District 7B ($500 scholarship/$100 per player)
2nd   District 3A
3nd   District 1

District 3A Boys

Boys
1st     District 3A ($500 scholarship/$100/player)
2nd   District 9
3rd    District 1

Additionally Rory Clark will receive a $100 scholarship for his personal 300 game during the singles. The boys’ District 1 team will receive $250 divided between the five players for an additional $50 each, for their Baker 300!

These added scholarships were made available thanks to the wonderful SMART Program administered by USBC. Through the fund earnings and lapsed accounts, scholarship providers like BCAW receive hundreds, and even thousands of dollars from SMART to award in our “unassigned” accounts.  The WI All Star Team Challenge account has more than enough money in the piggy bank to award the extra $350 in scholarships for the outstanding performance by these youth bowlers.

Full standings with scores and photos will be posted this week on the All Star Team Challenge webpage.   Congratulations to all of our high school all stars and to this year’s scholarship winners!

Thank you to the Jessi and her team at AMF West for a great event!  We especially appreciate the accommodations you made for our players to have a paddock area at the low end of the house.
